How long have you been doing CrossFit?
2 years
Did you have any apprehensions prior to starting CrossFit?
Oh yes lots. I was worried I wouldn’t be fit enough, that it would be too hard for me and I was also a little bit apprehensive about starting it on my own, other than one of the coaches I didn’t know anyone at the gym and I may have only been 24 but I still felt too ‘old’ to start something new. I was also a little cautious about lifting heavy weights. What if I hurt myself……or worse for a woman……got too muscular! Ha ha
Has your attitude changed since starting CrossFit?
My attitude has done a complete 180. I now realise everything I was worried about couldn’t be further from the reality. In some ways CrossFit is a better experience if you embrace it on your own as it forces you to speak to new people and creates an environment where you can. Now some of my best friends are from CrossFit. I don’t really think anyone can prepare for joining CrossFit, it will be a shock to your body regardless of your fitness level but as everything is scalable your fitness level and capabilities aren’t really relevant, plus it’s the quickest way to get fit. The age you start is also irrelevant. You are never too old to try something new. If you want to be ‘toned’ like all those magazines say then lifting weights is the only way that will happen. You won’t look like a body builder don’t worry. My body shape has changed, but for the better. I now have curves and definition as opposed to the bean pole I was when I walked in! ha ha
How would you describe CrossFit Leyland?
The love of my life. This might sound over the top and ridiculous but I am honestly not sure what I would do if I didn’t have CrossFit Leyland in my life. CrossFit keeps me fit and healthy and has shown me I am capable of more than I ever thought I could. CrossFit Leyland has also opened up a world of friendships, support, encouragement, and laughter, it has genuinely changed my life. The community in CrossFit Leyland is second to none. CrossFit as a gym or sport is brilliant. You learn functional movements that will impact your life. The workouts are varied and quick leaving no opportunity to back out or get bored and the combination of body weight work, kettlebells, weight lifting and gymnastics mean EVERYONE will find something they are good at.
What would you say to anyone who is thinking about giving CrossFit a go?
DO IT NOW! Don’t spend another moment thinking about it. CrossFit might not be for everyone, but if you don’t try it you will never know if you could be one of those people that truly love it. If CrossFit has caught your attention then there is a reason for it so you should embrace that.
