Clik here to view. How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I have being doing CrossFit for almost 18 months, I did my foundations with CFL in February 2014 with my partner and my daughter.
Did you have any apprehensions prior to starting CrossFit?
My partner and I wanted to try CrossFit for months before we finally got in touch with CFL and although we looked at other CrossFit gyms, the expertise and friendliness of this place really appealed to us. We both had different fitness ambitions but the diversity of CrossFit allowed us to train together for our different goals. We were both nervous but I would say that I was fearing it the most!! I had been working with a personal trainer for a year and doing the generic classes at my local sports centre, but I had no fitness or sporting background other than that. My initial motivation to improve my health and fitness was weight loss. I joined CFL after losing over 10 Stone but had (and still have!) some weight to lose. I felt I was too unfit to CrossFit and in all honesty I wasn’t keen on publicising my time after every workout. However I knew enough about CrossFit to understand that my body would benefit greatly from this training, it would work the weaknesses it is so easy to dodge at other gyms – and doing something you never thought possible before the class is what makes it so satisfying.
Has your attitude changed since starting CrossFit?
I have become more confident in a gym environment, I respect my body for the things it can do not just what it can’t – trust me I have a lot of weaknesses to work on but I know that with effort and the coaching at CFL progression is inevitable. Every workout, it is me against me, instead of trying to keep up in choreographed classes like I was used to in my old gym. These workouts are tough whether you’re a newbie or experienced they are tough and completing these workouts brings a level of self-esteem and confidence that I didn’t think possible.
How would you describe CrossFit Leyland?
I would describe CFL as a real community; friendly and supportive. You will walk into the gym and see an array of abilities but CrossFit is about effort, it is about one person pushing to achieve the best they can and everyone, and I mean everyone, is respected for that.
What would you say to anyone who is thinking about giving CrossFit a go?
I would say stop thinking and start doing!
