From everyone at CrossFit Leyland we hope you all had a merry christmas and a rewarding 2017! In this blog, we take the opportunity to summarise the achievements of some of our members over the past year.

It usually gets to this strange week between christmas and new year, when we’ve all eaten and drank a little too much, that we start to contemplate the new year on the horizon. If you are currently thinking about personal goals for 2018, you may find it useful to read a blog we previously published on the importance of goal setting, in order to get the best out of yourself in the gym. You can read it here; http://www.crossfitleyland.co.uk/smart-goal-setting/

As 2017 draws to a close, we hope we can inspire readers to set SMART goals in 2018 by highlighting what can be accomplished when you train with focus and determination. Our ethos at CFL is based on TECHNIQUE first, then CONSISTENCY and finally INTENSITY. So the following achievements include members that are at different stages of their CrossFit journey.

TECHNIQUE.

Simon Brindle

“I finally got T2B and DU!!!”

 Jenna Louise

“Since moving to CFL less than a year ago I have got HSPU, pullups, pistols, squat snatch @ 45 kg, plus so much more!”

Craig Holmes

“I got my 1st muscle up within my first year at CFL. Something which I thought was impossible!”

CONSISTENCY.

Ally Chesney

“Getting my first double under and going on to link 30 together”

Paul Sanderson

“Managing a 47.5 kg snatch. A year ago I couldn’t even squat with a PVC pipe above my head”

Sam Hensley –

“in 2017 I made a conscious effort on a Sunday evening to book on to all the classes for the week ahead, which has improved my consistency and ultimately my progression. One of my goals was to link toes to bar. Having worked hard on my core strength in the classes, I can now link 8 together”

INTENSITY.

Dawn Brotherton – 33 second PB on Benchmark WOD Grace (@30 kg)

“Thanks to some top tips from Coach Chris on how to recycle the bar effectively”

Fran McGladrigan

“I managed to complete a WOD with 30 RX pullups in”

Ben Holloway –

“Breaking the existing gym record for Fran (2:40) with a 12 second PB of 2:28, il take that!”

Having spoken to many new members that come through our doors and lots of our longstanding members, there are three main reasons that attract people to CrossFit Leyland and keep them coming back for more; Shape, Social and Sport.

SHAPE – to achieve a positive change in body composition

Su Quirk –

“I have lost a total of 3.5 stone (22 kg) in 2017. I lost a stone in my first month at CrossFit Leyland!”

Neil Chessell

“My goal was to be able to complete gymnastic movements RX. Losing body fat and getting my weight below 14 stone was a major contributing factor”

Fiona Staley Jackson

“Im back in a size 12. Now for a 10!”

SOCIAL – to meet new friends and have fun

Jools Jennings + Rebecca MacVicar

Adam Stableford –

“I have been a member for just over 3 years and have made the best friends. Im also the proud father of the first CFL baby!”

Sonia Lee –

“Sincere people with a shared vision for health and fitness, or as I like to call them ‘my sisters from another mister’ ”

SPORT – to put your skills and fitness to the test

Erann Royle –

“This year I competed in two Olympic Weightlifting competitions, finishing first in my category in both. It’s been a real learning curve, but thanks to top coaching from Matt at CFL I was super prepared. Next year im setting my sights on the English Championships”

Denis Mason

“I finished 6th in the British Rowing Championships, with a PB of 6 seconds (2000m)”

Charles Redshaw

“After several months of personal training at CFL I passed my army physical and start training as an officer at Sandhurst in January”

Cathy Wilson –

How can we forget Cathy’s phenomenal achievement of qualifying for the CrossFit Games and finishing in 14th place!

“The opportunity to compete against my idols… and even beat them on a couple of the WODs was special.”
